The curriculum used in this classroom, Godly Play, was developed by Jerome W. Berryman, an Episcopal Priest and (former) Director of the Center for the Theology of Childhood in Houston, Texas.

In Godly Play, we prepare a special environment for children to work with adult guides. Two teachers guide the session, making time for the children. The children enter the room (their sacred space) and are greeted by the Door leader.

Each child is greeted by the Story Teller leader and asked to join a circle sitting on the floor with the leader. When ready, prayers are said to begin the class.

The Story Teller presents a story of the Bible using visual aids and movements, which bring the story to life for the children. The stories presented are from the Old and New Testaments, Parables, and liturgical action. The children respond to the story presentation through shared wondering. After the wondering, the children respond to the story with their own expressive art, a provided craft, or work (play) with the lesson materials.

When they are done with response time, we prepare, pray, and share a feast.

Lastly, the children are blessed by the leader and goodbyes are said and they leave their sacred space. The leader then walks the children over the Sanctuary to attend the 10:00 service if they are not picked up by their parents.

All children are welcome at all services. During the Eucharist Prayer the Presider invites the children to join the clergy around the altar to participate fully in the service.
